This November, Mother’s Choice continues to celebrate Adoption Awareness Month because we believe that every child deserves a family, and that love, not just blood, defines family. We also know that every family needs community support as they walk along the lifelong journey of parenting and we want to walk alongside you. Our activities this month include:
CORPORATE COLLABORATIONS
Webinar – Adoption Leave
In collaboration with HKBN and Mercer, Mother’s Choice will launch this webinar on Nov 11, Wednesday, 2.00pm-3.00pm to raise awareness of family friendly workplaces with this fairly new adoption leave in Hong Kong to help increase capacity of adoptive families. (click to register) We are thrilled to issue a joint press release with HKBN in late October as they spearheaded offering 14-day adoption leave to all their staff members in Hong Kong as well as mainland China, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia. We hope this is the beginning of inspiring many more employers/corporates joining in.
Deed of Guardianship
Mother’s Choice & Hugill & Ip are excited to launch a joint campaign to raise funds to benefit our community including the many children without families and pregnant teenagers in Hong Kong. While donations can only be received from November 9 to December 6, Monday to Sunday, the period for taking appointments and the preparation of Deeds of Guardianship with the Estate Planning team at Hugill & Ip will run until 30 April 30, 2021, Friday. This is a great opportunity for everyone who has not yet put in place or needs to update their guardianship wishes, while supporting a worthwhile cause.

Faith Community Sharing
To engage the faith community to learn more about adoption to support and join in, Mother’s Choice will speak at various English churches to share on the situation of adoption in Hong Kong, give adoptive family sharing and so on. Adoption Information Session
This online Information Session on Dec 12, Saturday, 10.00am is key for people who want to learn more about adoption as well as about these waiting children. Enrolment details to come soon, stay-tuned.
Adoption Leave Guidance and Online Library Resources
Adoption Leave is important for children and families as parents need time to be available to show their child how they will love and care for them. To build stronger adoptive families, we launch the Adoption Leave Guidance as well as Online Library Resources on our website to offer advice and resources available.
Youth Leadership Council (“YLC”)
To raise awareness on adoption in our nine YLC school chapters, each school will develop a campaign to raise awareness of adoption in their school community this November.
ADOPTION SERVICE APPEAL
Thank you for your compassion and generosity. All donations that Mother’s Choice received in the month of November will be dedicated to Adoption Services. Even though adoption is one of the services Mother’s Choice is most well-known for, this service receives no dedicated funding either through subvention or grants. Mother’s Choice would love our Adoption Service appeal to reach a wider community, to raise awareness on adoption and to support this important work. Just like families, donations come in all shapes and sizes and no amount is too small!
National Adoption Month has been celebrated every November throughout the United States since 1976 to raise national awareness about adoption, celebrate children and families, and call the nation to action to find forever families for children who are living in temporary placements. Since 2013, Mother’s Choice has similarly celebrated Adoption Awareness Month in Hong Kong every November to educate and inform that adoption is a special way to build a family and to raise awareness of the many children who are waiting for forever families in Hong Kong.
Over the years, we have heard from so many within the Hong Kong adoption community asking how they can support and connect with Mother’s Choice. We hope that this is the first of many connections with you and your family. At Mother’s Choice, we believe that family is the most powerful agent of change. Adoption changes the lives of children, families, and their communities for generations … and that can change the world.
